Cookies

This page explains what cookies and similar technologies HH Muckers Ltd uses on this website, and how you can control them.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site work, remember preferences, or (where enabled) measure how the site is used. Similar technologies - for example local storage or pixels - are treated the same way in this notice.

2. What we use today

We keep cookie use to a minimum. On this site we currently use:

  • Essential / functional - cookies or local storage needed for the site to work (for example keeping a form step, UI preference, a first-party visitor id so we can group quotes and callbacks from the same browser, or the first page and campaign tags you arrived with so we can attach a traffic source to your quote). These do not track you across other sites
  • Google Tag Manager (GTM-NQSPSG) - loaded through a first-party path on this domain (Google tag gateway) so measurement requests go via hhmuckers.com. GTM loads tags we configure in Google, including Ruler Analytics call tracking. Those tags may set their own cookies; see Google's and Ruler's privacy policies for details
  • Ruler Analytics - swaps our yard number (01992 635454) for a dynamic forwarding number on click-to-call links so we can attribute phone enquiries to the right marketing source. Phone links are marked with the same rulertel / rulerclick classes used on hhmuckers.com. If you take an instant quote, we copy Ruler's visitor id and the tracking number shown to you onto that quote so we can tell if you later call
  • Embedded video - some pages may load YouTube in privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie.com) mode when you choose to play a video. YouTube may then set its own cookies; see Google's cookie policy for details

We set a first-party cookie (hhm_attr, 90 days) to remember how you first reached the site (landing page, referrer, and any Google/Microsoft/Meta click ids or UTM tags). We use it to label your quote in our admin tools. We do not use it to advertise to you on other sites.

We also set a first-party cookie (hhm_vid, about 13 months) with a random visitor id on your first public pageview. We stamp that id on quotes, callback requests and brochure enquiries from the same browser, and send it to Google Tag Manager, so the office can see that those actions belong together. It is not a login. Safari and some iOS browsers may drop the cookie sooner. If you leave an email or phone number we attach that to the same visitor id; we do not automatically merge different browsers that share a number.

3. Analytics and call tracking

Analytics and Ruler Analytics call tracking are managed through Google Tag Manager container GTM-NQSPSG - the same setup used on hhmuckers.com. Exact cookies depend on which tags are published in that container. We will keep this page updated if we change providers.

4. How to control cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse third-party cookies or clear cookies when you close the window. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site (for example the quote form) from working properly.

For more on cookies and your choices, see the ICO guidance at ico.org.uk.

5. More about your data

How we use personal information more broadly - quotes, callbacks, job records - is set out in our Privacy Policy.
